Mixup - Music collaboration system

Collaboration for producers & artists

Overview

Mixup is a SaaS developed by the founders of Puremix. It is designed to streamline the track feedback process by providing an innovative collaboration platform for audio engineers and their clients. The goal of the project was to transform the initial stark interface into an intuitive and engaging online music workspace, making Mixup marketable.

Business objectives:
  • Become the leading collaboration tool in the audio industry.

  • Make users' first impressions memorable, because the founder (who is a well-known audio engineer working with Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Mark Ronson ect...) has put his credibility on the line.

  • In the first phase, grow the user base (free or paid)

User testing revealed some pain points that have to be fixed before a product launch:

  • They've lost in the dashboard when browsing the files from the quickview.

  • It's difficult to access player view to play their music. The quickview is not intuitive enough. Nobody double clicks to open a player.

  • The wording is unclear for the player, album, and showcase: 'player' is confused with 'playlist'.

  • Comments must be more readable.

  • Users don't understand that they can scroll in the version list in the player view.

  • The admin panel seems unnecessary and confuses users when they need to take an action.

Takeaways

This project taught me the importance of remaining vigilant about emerging competitors throughout the development phase, as well as the necessity of reprioritizing tasks based on feedback—ranging from qualitative insights gathered from beta forum and surveys.

It also provided valuable lessons on collaborating with marketing team to amplify brand awareness and voice, as well as guiding users seamlessly from their initial interaction with Mixup to navigating through the app.
